Turf Talk originally launched in the UK in 1994 as a ratings-based system under the name Computerace. The algorithm had first been developed for the Australian market, but after producing strong and consistent results it was adapted for UK racing, where it quickly built a reputation for accuracy.
The system came into its own in the big meetings and, in particular, competitive handicaps where strong profiling and structured ratings can make all the difference. At the time, its performance attracted recognition from leading figures in the sport, including Martin Pipe and Peter Scudamore.
While the original handheld version of Computerace is no longer commercially available, the core principles behind it have never been lost. The same approach continues to sit at the heart of Turf Talk today, combining ratings, trends and race profiling to identify value and consistency where others often rely purely on opinion.
The methods have evolved with the modern race, but the philosophy remains exactly the same — build a clear profile, trust the numbers, and let the ratings do the talking.
