The 2000 Guineas once again looks like a race where the market has a good idea of the main players, but not necessarily the right order.
The key trends remain very solid. Every recent winner had a rating of at least 109, every one had already won at least twice, and most arrived either off a strong Group juvenile campaign or after a prep run that confirmed they had trained on. The Futurity Trophy continues to be a particularly strong guide.
These are the three that come out strongest on the Turf Talk figures.
TURF TALK RATINGS - LEADING CONTENDERS
| Horse | Turf Talk Rating |
|---|---|
| Field Of Gold | 226 |
| Ruling Court | 219 |
| Shadow Of Light | 212 |
| Expanded | 201 |
| Wimbledon Hawkeye | 193 |
The ratings again favour the colts with strong juvenile Group form and a proper mile profile, although one or two less exposed runners still have enough upside to make things interesting.
MAIN SELECTION
Field Of Gold (15/8 available)
He comes out top on the figures and looks to have the strongest overall Classic profile in the race.
His form already suggests he should be very effective over a mile and he has the right level of class for a race like this. With a proper mix of ability, rating and potential for further improvement, he looks the one they all have to beat.
BACKUP SELECTION 1
Ruling Court (7/2 available)
A very solid alternative with a profile that makes plenty of sense for the race.
He has enough class and the right level of form to be a major player, and if he improves again from two to three he looks sure to be heavily involved. Not quite top of the figures, but close enough to be taken very seriously.
BACKUP SELECTION 2
Shadow Of Light (6/1 available)
Another colt with enough class to make an impact if things fall right for him.
He has the right sort of juvenile form to fit the main historical patterns and looks one of the more interesting alternatives if the market leaders do not fully deliver. He may need a bit more improvement, but the raw talent is there.
SUMMARY
Field Of Gold heads the ratings and looks the strongest on the main Classic trends, with Ruling Court the obvious danger and Shadow Of Light another who has enough class to be involved if improving from two to three.
