Haydock 2:25 – Interesting Returner at a Price

The 2:25 at Haydock looks a competitive race on paper, but there’s one in here at a big price that could easily outrun odds.

Phantomofthepoints (16/1) hasn’t been seen since finishing fourth in a decent race at Ayr back in April, but there’s a key piece of information since that run that makes him of interest here.

He’s had wind surgery over the summer, and that alone can often bring about significant improvement – particularly for horses that have been shaping better than the bare result suggests.

That Ayr run was far from a bad effort in what looked a solid contest, and with the benefit of that experience plus the operation, there’s every chance we see a more polished performance here.

This is undoubtedly a tough race, and there are a few with stronger profiles on paper, but that’s exactly why we’re getting a price.

If the wind op has the desired effect and he’s improved even a few pounds, then he could easily be competitive at rewarding odds.

THE VERDICT

This looks a classic small-stakes each-way angle in a strong race. Plenty of unknowns, but also plenty of upside at the price.

Phantomofthepoints – Each Way 16/1

Not one to go mad on, but definitely one worth keeping onside at a big price.
