Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Preview
The Supreme is usually one of the more straightforward Festival races to assess from a trends perspective, with the market often pointing very strongly towards the right horses. Class, recent winning form and proven two-mile pace are almost always key ingredients.
This year’s renewal looks no different, with several high-quality novices arriving off the back of strong performances and fitting the typical winning profile — namely five and six-year-olds rated 147+ with multiple hurdle wins already under their belt.
Based on the trends and overall profiles, these are the runners that come out strongest.
TURF TALK RATINGS - LEADING CONTENDERS
| Horse | Rating |
|---|---|
| Old Park Star | 224 |
| Sober Glory | 218 |
| Talk The Talk | 211 |
| Mydaddypaddy | 205 |
| El Cairos | 199 |
| Mighty Park | 193 |
The ratings are headed by the obvious contenders, which is no surprise in a race where the strongest novices tend to come to the fore.
MAIN SELECTION
Old Park Star (3/1 available)
He looks the most solid option in the race based on the key trends. He fits the ideal age bracket, has already achieved a rating well within the typical winning range and arrives here with strong recent form over two miles.
He also has the tactical pace that is so important in the Supreme and comes from a yard that knows exactly what is required to win this race. If he settles well and jumps cleanly, he looks the one they all have to beat.
SECOND SELECTION
Sober Glory (6/1 available)
Another runner who fits the trends very well and brings a strong recent profile into the race. He has shown plenty of ability over this trip and looks the type who should be suited by a strongly run contest.
If able to get into a good rhythm near the pace, he looks likely to be involved for a long way and rates a very solid alternative to the favourite.
THIRD SELECTION
Talk The Talk (13/2 available)
He brings a slightly different angle to the race and looks a touch overpriced compared to some of the principals. His form stacks up well against the trends and he has already shown enough class to suggest he belongs at this level.
In a race that usually goes to one of the top few in the betting, he still looks capable of getting involved if things fall his way.
SUMMARY
Old Park Star looks the most solid option based on the key Supreme trends, bringing the right combination of class, rating and recent winning form. Sober Glory rates the main danger if able to dictate the pace, while Talk The Talk looks the most interesting value alternative in what is typically a race dominated by the market principals.
