The Irish Grand National continues to favour improving staying chasers rather than exposed handicappers.

Younger horses with manageable weights and scope for progression remain the strongest profile.

Using the Turf Talk approach, these are the three that come out best on the ratings.

MAIN SELECTION

I Am Maximus (6/1 available)

A high-class runner who still fits enough of the key trends.

He has the ability edge over many in the field and remains unexposed enough over this sort of trip to be a major player.

BACKUP SELECTION 1

Gevrey (8/1 available)

A strong alternative with a progressive staying profile.

He ticks plenty of the key boxes and looks the type who could improve again for this test of stamina.

BACKUP SELECTION 2

Velvet Elvis (12/1 available)

A slightly bigger price but one that fits the overall profile well.

He is still relatively unexposed and could take a step forward in a race that often rewards improving types.

SUMMARY

I Am Maximus gets the vote, with Gevrey the main danger and Velvet Elvis a solid each-way option.
